The Eisteddfod Chair
The Eisteddfod Chair
In the garden magnificently placed as an iconic symbolic piece of furniture sits the Castle’s Eisteddfod chair – a hand-carved sculpture made from local oak, slate and bronze.
This 1.5 times scaled up version of a domestic piece of furniture was carved by Sculptor Paul Clarke. It re-imagines the original Eisteddfod chair awarded to the victorious poet in Lord Rhys’ very first Eisteddfod held on Christmas day at the Castle in 1176.
