Mae’n bleser gennym groesawu Côr Cymry Gogledd America i berfformio yng Nghastell Aberteifi ar y 5ed o Orffennaffel rhan o’i daith ben-blwydd yn 25 oed o gwmpas Cymru; taith arwyddocaol gyntaf y côr o gwmpas Cymru ers 2002. Ar y daith bydd dros 60 o gantorion talentog Côr Cymry o dros 17 o daleithiau America a 3 talaith yng Nghanada, pob un ohonynt yn ddisgynyddion mewnfudwyr o Gymru, newydd-ddyfodiaid, alltudion, ac eraill sy’n teimlo cysylltiad i gerddoriaeth a chymuned Côr Cymry Gogledd America.
Bydd eu repertoire, sy’n cael ei ganu yn y Gymraeg a’r Saesneg, yn cynnwys tri darn o waith sydd newydd eu comisiynu yn deillio o bob cwr o Gymru gan rai o’n cyfansoddwyr a’n hawduron cyfoes mwyaf nodedig, gan gynnwys Cefin Roberts ac Einion Dafydd (Gogledd Cymru), Penri Roberts a Linda Gittins (Canolbarth Cymru), a Mererid Hopwood ac Eric Jones (De Cymru).
Sefydlwyd Côr Cymry Gogledd America ym 1998 gan ei Gyfarwyddwr Artistig ac Arweinydd, Dr. Mari Morgan, ac ymddangosodd am y tro cyntaf ym 1999 yn y Gymanfa Ganu Genedlaethol, a elwir bellach yn North American Festival of Wales. Ac yntau’n cael ei adnabod fel y “Côr Cymunedol sy’n rhychwantu Cyfandir,” roedd aelodau côr pellennig Côr Cymry Gogledd America ymhlith y cyntaf i ddefnyddio’r rhyngrwyd i helpu i ddysgu cerddoriaeth ac iaith, ac i gadw trefn ar weithgareddau’r côr.
Ers 1999, mae’r côr wedi perfformio ledled y byd, o Efrog Newydd i Seland Newydd, ac wedi rhyddhau sawl recordiad, gan gynnwys Lifting the Sky, perfformiad pen-blwydd byw yn Trinity Church, Wall Street, Efrog Newydd, NY.
Maen nhw wedi perfformio fel rhan o Gyngherddau Cofio 9/11 (Trinity Church, Wall Street, Efrog Newydd ac ar safle’r hyn a fyddai’n dod yn Ardd Goffa Brydeinig), wedi cynnal Cyngerdd yn y Smithsonian yn Washington, DC fel rhan o raglen y Sefydliad yn dathlu Iwerddon a Chymru; ac wedi perfformio yng Nghynulliad Cenedlaethol Cymru dan lywyddiaeth y Prif Weinidog ar y pryd, Rhodri Morgan.

We are delighted to welcome Côr Cymry Gogledd America to perform at Cardigan Castle on July 5th as part of its 25th anniversary tour of Wales; their first significant tour of Wales since 2002. On tour will be over 60 talented Côr Cymry choristers from over 17 American states & 3 Canadian provinces Canada, all of whom are the descendants of Welsh immigrants, newer arrivals, expatriates, and others who feel connected to the music and community of Côr Cymry Gogledd America.
Their repertoire will include three newly commissioned works drawn from across Wales from some of our most notable contemporary composers and writers, sung in both Welsh and English, including Cefin Roberts & Einion Dafydd (North Wales), Penri Roberts & Linda Gittins (mid-Wales), and Mererid Hopwood & Eric Jones (South Wales).
Côr Cymry Gogledd America was founded in 1998 by its Artistic Director and Conductor, Dr. Mari Morgan, and made its debut in 1999 at the National Gymanfa Ganu, now called the North American Festival of Wales. Known as the “Community Choir that spans a Continent,” Côr Cymry Gogledd America’sfar-flung choristers were among the first to use the internet to help learn music and language, and to keep abreast of choir activities.
Since 1999 the choir has performed the world over, from New York to New Zealand, and has released several recordings, including Lifting the Sky, a live anniversary performance at Trinity Church, Wall Street, New York, NY.
They have performed as part of the 9/11 Remembrance Concerts (Trinity Church, Wall Street, New York and at the site of what would become the British Memorial Garden), given a Concert at the Smithsonian in Washington, DC as part of the Institution’s celebration of Ireland and Wales; and have performed at the National Assembly of Wales hosted by then First Minister, Rhodri Morgan.
